- Unforeseen operational challenges force cancellation of IPC’s scientific conference
Due to unforeseen operational challenges, the 11th edition of the IPC’s scientific conference VISTA 2025 scheduled for 7-10 December in Cairo, Egypt, has been cancelled by the Local Organising Committee (LOC).
For several months now, the LOC has been planning and preparing to host the IPC’s scientific conference for the first-time in Africa. More than 80 presenters were scheduled to present oral and poster sessions at VISTA 2025 on the conference theme “Developing Para Sport: Inclusion, Transformation, Health and Performance”.
However, despite several months of planning and preparation, critical elements required to safely and effectively deliver the conference could not be resolved. These challenges have made it impossible to proceed at an acceptable standard, and the event has unfortunately needed to be cancelled at late notice.
Dr Hossam Eldin Mostafa, President of the National Paralympic Committee of Egypt, said: “We were tremendously excited to host VISTA for the first time in Africa. However, despite our best endeavours, unforeseen operational challenges have led us to take the difficult decision to cancel the event.
“We appreciate this late cancellation will be disappointing to those who planned to either present or attend the event in Cairo. Unfortunately, in the circumstances we currently face, delivering this event to the level of quality that is expected is simply not possible.”
Due to the cancellation, the LOC will now begin the process of refunding all those who had registered to attend the event.
The VISTA Conference is an important international scientific gathering that provides a forum for exchanging information, research and expertise related to sport for people with a disability.
First organised by the IPC in 1993, VISTA aimed to address the limited scientific research on elite sport for athletes with an impairment. It has evolved into a key forum for exchange on expertise related to Para sport and the Paralympic Movement. Today, the conference also aims to enhance and promote interaction among sport scientists, coaches, athletes and sport administrators.
